NINA KULIK 2024

Over the last few years, I have been on many a unforgettable journey across Poland and Ukraine, not just the lands but through the depths of my family's roots in Galicia. Behind the wheel, with every mile, my connection to these places have grown stronger, fuelled by the purpose of delivering aid and the stories that unfolded along the way. These adventures have done more than just deepen my appreciation for my heritage—it sparked a desire to celebrate it through art. Last year, I collaborated with Oleg Gryschchenko, a Ukrainian artist to capture the spirit of Ukraine and Poland, a nod to the intertwined history and beauty of these places that are so close to my heart.

This year, I'm turning the spotlight on Poland, with a desire to honour its vibrant culture and artistic legacy. Polish poster art, with its bold colours and striking designs, have always had a special place in my collection—and in my heart. It's more than art; it's a narrative of Poland's creativity, resilience, subversive defiance and sense of humour.

So, it felt only natural to choose a Polish artist this time around, someone who continues the tradition of Polish poster art. Nina Kulik is that artist. With her simple yet evocative designs, Nina carries forward the legacy of Polish creativity, blending the old with the new in a celebration of our shared heritage.

This choice is a tribute not just to my personal story, but to the enduring beauty and inventiveness of Polish art. Through Nina's work, we continue our journey of exploration and celebration, one birthday card at a time.

Introducing Nina Kullik

Nina is an illustrator and poster creator based in Krakow, Poland. Drawing inspiration from her lifelong affection for animals and simple shapes, she recently crafted two designs inspired by domesticated animals, blending elements of nature with urban life.

Her designs embrace simplicity, inviting viewers to interpret the characters in their own way while still capturing the essence of each creature.

I got to know Nina’s work after winning some of her posters in a charity auction with the proceeds going to support the people of Ukraine. I have remained in touch, with her on hand to give guidance on aid delivery trips.

Each card is meticulously hand printed by her neighbour, Mr. Bogdan, a skilled craftsman with decades of experience in screen printing. Through his expertise, every card is imbued with a unique charm of this old school technique.

We make these cards only for our clients as a way to give something special each year. Each are produced in very limited numbers and are all signed and numbered by the artist.
